NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
