Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
