Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While playing net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
