Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
