NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
